…Kuki Kiichi?!

August 28, 2008

Ok, show of hands: who here remembers Kuki Kiichi? From Kakinoki Chuu, he’s the guy Fudoumine’s Shinji utterly pwned in like episode 10 or something. Since then, he has had absolutely NO plot relevance, and I don’t think he’s even showed up once since then.
He released a single back in 2006, Kiichi no Hayakuchi Kotoba, which featured him pwning all these tongue-twisters but not being able to say his own name (“Kakinoki Chuu no Kuki Kiichi”). Yeah, it was funny, but you know, a one time thing.
Someone please explain to me why he’s releasing two more singles on November 19th.

Why Kuki of all characters? How about Seigaku players that actually, you know, matter? Eiji hasn’t had a single since 2004, only an album in 2005 and that’s it. Momo has only had 2 singles, like, EVER- his Best of Seigaku Players series single in 2002, and his radio show theme series single in 2004. I think he’s the only Seigaku member to not have an album.
Or how about a Rikkai player, seeing as they’re Seigaku’s opponents right now in the anime? I don’t know. Someone that actually has plot relevance! XD
CD Japan lists the two singles as “Kiichi no Hayakuchi Kotoba 2” and “Kiichi no Hayakuchi Kotoba 3”. Oh come ON, this is unnecessary. Then again, what else would he do? There’s no way he’d have a serious song…XD

Well, here’s hoping they announce more CDs soon…as far as I know, all that we know about right now is these two singles, the Atobe birthday single + album, and the 3rd Tezuka/Sanada duet single that hasn’t been officially announced but will probably be released in early October.
I kinda feel like things are slowing down, but actually 2008 has had more singles than 2007, so…o_o

Adventures in Japanese 3 says…

August 27, 2008

I got my school books for the year today, and I was flipping through my Japanese book when a section caught my eye. There’s a part of a chapter devoted to popular culture in Japan- music, movies, etc. I found a couple of sections amusing, so here you go, typed directly up from the book:

アイドル歌手(Idol Singers)/ポップミュージック(Pop Music)
Every year, cute, young teenagers or groups of teenagers debut in the world of pop music, singing light, bouncy, upbeat tunes. They are cute and have a sense of innocence, but they are not always able to carry a tune. Looks and personality allow them to make the Top 10 charts. They sing and dance on weekly music television programs, and as their popularity grows, they move over into the world of acting. These singers have the biggest influence on young teenagers in Japan who begin to dress and speak like these stars. Young fans frequent CD and DVD shops to rent, or occasionally purchase music of their favorite artists.

So, if the Seigaku regulars had Facebook…

August 23, 2008

My annoying younger sister’s odd relationship status somehow reminded me of an idea I had a couple days ago, and this just kinda…happened. o_o Discussion goes from statuses, to games, to camerawhores, events, groups….eventually moving onto blogs, and hey, I even threw a #wotachat plug in there! XD (#wotachat on rizon.net!)
Warning: long XD

Banana no Namida~

August 21, 2008

HAHA
So ok, I’m watching Kamen Rider Kiva because Seto Kouji stars in it. And Seto Kouji is my favorite actor for Eiji in the PoT musicals, so I figured, why the hell not. I’m watching episode 2. And you see, in Kiva, there are kinda two parts to it- one in 1986, and one in 2008 (the 2008 one is the one with Seto!), and they keep alternating randomly in the middle of the episode. Now, in the cafe scenes in 1986, there’s music playing in the background, but, being the 80s, I didn’t think I’d recognize any of it.
Oh how wrong I was.
Episode 2, 4 minutes in, scene changes to 1986…first thing I notice. THEY’RE PLAYINg BANANA NO NAMIDA! By Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi, a subgroup of Onyanko Club, but better known (to me) as THAT 80s CRACK SONg TEZUKA AND SANADA COVERED TWO WEEKS AgO! XDDD
Haha, this made my day. As if KamenRider!Eiji wasn’t enough already. If I catch Valentine Kiss, I think I’ll die of happiness.

Oh, and in the 2008 cafe scene in episode 1, they were playing AAA’s Mirage! I’m surprised I caught that, cause I’ve only listened to it like once or twice. o_o But I heard the intro and it sounded familiar, and then when the vocals came on I was just like “hey, is this the guy from AAA…?” Then I guessed it was Mirage, and sure enoug, when I double checked, it was! =D

I think I have a new favorite pirate song.

August 19, 2008

I mean, until now it’s always been Morning Musume no Hyokkori Hyoutanjima, right? (Not that there are many j-pop pirate songs out there, but whatever.) And I absolutely LOVED the performance of it in Single Daizenshuu.
However, this amazing song has just totally pwned Hyokkori Hyoutanjima.

OH HIGA. *dies*
Oh Kai. How I love you so much. Even though you lost to Eiji. Actually no, if you beat Eiji I’d probably hate you, so I suppose it’s for the best.
My friend told me yesterday she doesn’t like Dream Lives. DUDE. Dream Lives are my FAVORITE, for the random scenes like this! xD Even if they have a crappy selection of songs (none of the songs in Dream Live 4th stood out to me at all originally, so I didn’t recognize any of them in the DL) there are always hilarious skits!
Although, I have to say, I wonder why they’re dressed up as pirates when the song is called Viking Horn, based off of Kai’s move. o_o Pirates =/= Vikings, right…?
This song also gets some love from me for being the first memorable song since Hyouteimyu! YAY! xD Legit, if I looked at the tracklists for Rokkakumyu or either Rikkaimyu, I wouldn’t be able to hum the tune for any of the songs, and Higamyu was going the same way until this song. xD (Well, I guess that’s an exaggeration, after listening to them a couple times I know a bunch of songs from those musicals, but none of them really stuck the first time through)
The original version in Higamyu was funny too, even though they weren’t dressed fully in pirate outfits, just their normal Higa outfits (with swords, flags, and Kai had a pirate hat!), but it was funny because it was so unexpected. o_o And Kite was sword-fighting with Eiji (who was using his racket of course) in the background lol. xD
Anyway, this song is catchy. Vi-vi-vi-vi-vi-vi-viking horn!

Catching up a bit, I guess

August 13, 2008

So, it’s been almost two months since I left for Japan and therefore fell behind on translating Prince of Tennis music news. I’m not going to bother catching up on the stuff already released- because really, I think everyone that cares already knows about Kirihara’s new single released three weeks ago, and the name change from “Full Best 100+2” to “Memorial Best 2001-2008” for that 8-disc compilation released two weeks ago (which I already got a copy of, heh), etc. Instead I guess I’ll just do a quick rundown of the upcoming CDs!
